Piran – the place that made us stay

The next day took us to Piran, and within minutes it was clear that this wouldn’t be just another stop on the route for an overnighter. We loved it instantly and decided to prolong our stay to two full days without thinking twice.

We stayed right in the old town, at Maja Apartments near the lighthouse, surrounded by narrow streets, thick stone walls and the constant presence of the sea. After walking through the summer heat, stepping back into the cool air-conditioned apartment felt like a small luxury, especially in a place that still carries so much of its old character.

Most of the time we simply strolled through town, letting ourselves get lost on purpose. Piran invites that kind of slow wandering. You pass small squares, quiet corners, open windows, and suddenly the Adriatic opens up in front of you again. We ate pizza wherever it felt right, unplanned and uncomplicated, the way it should be.

One of the highlights was walking along the city walls. From up there, the view stretches over the red rooftops, the deep blue sea, and on a clear day you can even see Italy on the far horizon. It’s a moment that puts everything into perspective and makes the place feel both intimate and wide open at the same time.

Piran has that effortless Mediterranean flair. The light, the stone, the sea breeze in the evenings, nothing feels staged or rushed. It’s calm, warm, and grounded.

What was meant to be a short visit became the highlight of the entire trip. Piran didn’t ask for more time. It simply deserved it.
