Shanghai – enjoying Michelin star cuisine

The density of Michelin Star Restaurants in Shanghai is huge. Some of the worlds finest chefs settled here and the most expensive even combining food with a unique experience for body mind and soul, expect to pay more than 150 euro per person here. Other star restaurants are pretty affordable to European standards.

First Elise introduced me to The Lakeside Veggie. Only veggie food, lots of mushrooms inspired dishes and delicious mock meat.
We then discovered a veggie hot pot restaurant, Yan Ge Ge. It doesn’t have a Michelin star but the atmosphere and quality of food is in the same league.
I also went to Shi Chuan Fei Chuan. A restaurant reinventing one of the spiciest cuisines from china. And yes it’s been super spicy. Fine dining and super delicious.

And finally I went to Canton 8, probably the cheapest 2 star restaurant in the world, specialising in cantonese food. A very interesting twist and a normal level of spice for me.

The main difference to other restaurants despite the price is the quality of food and service, the amount of waiters and the size of the portions. Designed small to be able to try different dishes. Especially Chinese really like to share and order a lot of food. Prices can be compared and are around 30-40 euro including drinks per person.

My favourite is still the Lakeside Veggie. All of the dishes super delicious and you don’t need to wonder which part of the animal this might be. As translating sometimes doesn’t reveal the whole deal and English speaking personell still hard to find.

Bon Appetit!
