Today I went through the narrow lanes of different quarters of the city, equipped with a little guidebook, Elise gave me as a present. It’s written by Germans who live in the city for decades and already know their way around. The book is called “Streifzüge”, it features 8 different non touristy routes and is done in a really nice way. Every step has direct instructions where you start, you see a little picture how this area looks. There’s also arrows in which direction you need to turn for the next step because sometimes it’s hard to miss because they also enter in quarters where you usually would not think there is a passage. So you can see how Chinese people live and see the real life that is not visible on the bigger streets behind walls. It’s very great and also pinpoints you to certain types of street arts and other stuff usually hidden to the eye.
I went to the former Jewish quarter all along the developed river greenway walk crossing the Yangpu bridge all through the outskirts of Hongkou and entering the Yangpu district.
