Yen Tu Mountain – close to buddha’s breath

Our hotel receptionist recommended a trip to Yen Tu mountain for us. He organised a driver who took us there and picked us up again when we were done. Around an hour drive from Ha Long city we found ourselves all of a sudden in a local touristy spot, being the only foreigners we earned recognising views from the Vietnamese. Obviously people were in holidays and used the opportunity to climb up the mountain.

At 1,068 meters, the peak of Yen Tu Mountain is frequently enveloped in white clouds, earning it the name “Bach Van Son,” meaning “Mountain of White Clouds.” The whole area is developed and 2 cable cars take the crowd up. We also went for the easy way. There were enough steps left of the path for us to the top anyway.

Yen Tu Mountain, is regarded as the birthplace of the Truc Lam Zen Sect. The expansive complex of temples, stupas and pagodas on the mountain serves as a historical testament to the growth of Buddhism in Vietnam since the 14th century. If you’re interested in more about the history of the mountain and the culture head over to Vietnam discovery.

After a long and challenging journey, a heavenly reward awaited our discovery at the summit of Yen Tu Mountain. Kissed by Buddha we peacefully descended through the clouds back to the ground.
