Slovenia – Big city Life

After days close to rivers and tents, Kamnik was our soft entry back into city life. Small town, alpine backdrop, calm streets. It feels ordered without being boring, lively without trying too hard. A good warm-up before going bigger, we ate heartsy local meat, strolled through old town and also went for a slash in the public bath next to our campsite. The temperatures were rising being in the 30s. Kamp Resnik is such a great small camp and a friendly owner, all family owned, we enjoyed our time here.

The other day we went to Ljubljana, which shifts the tempo immediately.
More people, more noise, more movement, but still relaxed. Big city life in a very manageable size. Cafés everywhere, bikes everywhere, the river cutting straight through the city like it owns the place.
We walk up to the castle, because that’s what you do. The view delivers. Old town roofs, green hills, a city that feels compact and coherent rather than chaotic. Ljubljana doesn’t spread, it clusters.
The old town is made for wandering. Narrow streets, small shops, no real plan. You turn left, then right, then forget why you turned at all. That’s usually a good sign.

Parking turns into the real adventure of the day.
We left the car near the stadium at a semi-official park-and-ride situation. Almost empty. Slightly spooky. The kind of place where you double-check if you locked the car and then check again. Hours later, coming back, the scene has completely changed. Full parking lot. People everywhere. Evening event in full swing. We sneak through crowds that definitely weren’t there before, trying to look like we belong while quietly wondering if the car will still be where we left it. No, not here, are we in the same place? Where is our car? Everything looks different. 10 min later we found it. Relief level high.

Cities feel different when you arrive from nature. Sharper, louder, more intense, but also exciting in a very specific way.
Kamnik eased us in. Ljubljana pulled us right into the middle.
